Microreactor technology and flow chemistry could play a pivotal role in the context of sustainable development, according to the authors of this journal article. According to them, flow chemistry is becoming a new technique for fulfilling several of the twelve green chemistry principles. They suggest a micro-reactor approach could preserve atom economy, guarantee less hazardous chemical synthesis and allow the use of safer solvents and auxiliaries. And it pushes towards chemistry designs with lower environmental and economic impact, enhances the importance of catalysis, allows real-time analysis for pollution prevention and provides inherently safer chemistry.
