Hydrogen: Fuel of the Future?

Frequently heralded as the fuel of the future for the last few decades, hydrogen may finally be on the cusp of converting its vast potential to reality. A growing coalition of governments and corporations are actively assessing the varied roles for hydrogen as the world looks to significantly reduce carbon emissions while still providing reliable electricity to a growing population and powering industrial operations. The International Energy Agency (IEA), in a report released June 2019, underscored that “the current level of attention has opened a genuine window of opportunity for policy and private-sector action.” In the lead up to the June 2020 Eleventh CEM meeting in Viña del Mar Chile, review the slides of a recent webinar to see how ministers and stakeholders plan to accelerate action to realize hydrogen’s potential. Experts from the United States, Canada, Japan and the IEA share how new technologies in this arena advance a clean and integrated systems approach. The webinar also introduced current status, along with opportunities and plans, looking ahead at exciting and innovative uses being developed, from nuclear to industry, transportation, and beyond.
